I recently became a foster mom. It has totally changed the way I view God’s love for me and how I need to learn to love others. How do you love someone that has been beaten, tattered, scarred and abandoned? Someone who doesn’t trust easily. Who is afraid of being let down and hurt again. How do you love someone who can’t see their full potential because they are jaded by their past. Someone who believes they have no place in his world and no sense of belonging. How do you love someone who believes they don’t deserve love at all? The same way God loves us. Unconditionally, without judging, humbly giving of yourself for whatever they may need. Looking past where they have been to the potential you see that they could be. You go out of your way and make sure they are comfortable. You sacrifice what you need yourself to make sure they have what they need. You also are willing to give your life for their’s. Who can love like that? … God. Greater love has no man than this then he laid down his life for his friends. (John 15:13)
God wants us to give of ourselves sacrificially. Most of us give a little – Only to the point where we’re comfortable. Not many are willing to give until it hurts. Until we’re uncomfortable. When it’s difficult or doesn’t make sense. When nothing is given in return. When we’re tired. When we feel like we’re not making a difference or getting through. How have you loved someone today? Have you taken time to lay it all out on be table. To be transparent and real with someone? Have others seen Jesus pouring out of you as you minister and serve them?
Maybe you’re the one who feels unloved. If so, please know that God loves you so much that He gave His only son for you. (John 3:16) Jesus died so you could live. He longs for a relationship with you. A true relationship that cultivates love, faith, and forgiveness. It’s a love like you’ve never known before.
